Would you happen to have a lead to photo showing where the Southern applied the U-1 wheel stencils to their 70-ton hoppers in 1978? I’m coming up with very little pictorial data.
Paul, I’ve found a few shots but none that I have permission to share. They’re all over the place, so you could put it anywhere on the lower right side and be good. The most popular spot seems to be the rightmost full panel anywhere between the bottom and where the slope sheet meets, and most seem to be closer to a rib than the center. Another common spot is low on the second-to-last full panel on the right side. The randomness seems linked to the randomness of the lube stencil plates–these were placed anywhere lower right, and the U-1 wheel dots had to work around them.
