The model shown was built from an old Front Range kit about 35+ years ago. Since that time I have learned a little more about these cars. It appears that most of them were converted from former PS1 40′ boxcars with 8′ doors but there were also some ACF cars used as well. These cars were converted by the L&N at their S. Louisville Car Shops in the 1970’s. Hope this helps with your future modeling.

I saw some L&N boxcars converted for coke use in 1970 in New Orleans. They had some wire mesh “windows” low on each side. Can’t find the photos now. Can you tell me what I saw? Were they like your model? Were the openings for dust in pre EPA days? Thank you for showing your model.
I’m very impressed of this converted boxcar and want to build similar ones. Please, can you tell me, what H0 model is used as the base for it?
